The route of the Itzulia 2018, which will be held from April 2nd to 7th, has been presented this morning. In this 58th edition of the basque tour 805,9 kilometers will be covered in six stages, one of them an Individual Time Trial. The route includes 23 mountain passes: four of 1st category, seven of 2nd category and twelve of 3rd category.

 

Also in the presentation, Itzulia’s new logotype and renewed website have been launched.

 

Summary of the stages:

 

1st stage: Zarautz – Zarautz

On April 2nd, 162,1 kilometers will be raced. The route will start in Zarautz at 13:17 and it will end at the same town, in front of Villa Munda, between 17:18 and 17:42. This stage has five mountain passes and two sprints:

-        Jaizkibel of 2nd category at Km 57,2

-        Maddiola of 3rd category at Km 84,8

-        Sprint in Orio at Km 91,7

-        Garate of 3rd category at Km 104,7

-        Sprint in Zumaia at Km 114,2

-        Aia of 3rd category at Km 139,9

-        Elkano of 2nd category at Km 155,4

 

2nd stage: Zarautz – Bermeo

On April 3rd, 152,7 kilometers will be raced. The route will start like the day before in Zarautz at 13:33 and it will end in Bermeo between 17:19 and 17:42. This stage has four mountain passes and two sprints:

-        Natxitua of 3rd category at Km 61,3

-        Sprint in Kortezubi at Km 78,4

-        Almika-Sollube of 1st category at Km 100,3

-        Jata of 3rd category at Km 135,6

-        Sprint in Bakio at Km 141

-        San Pelayo of 2nd category at Km 146,4

 

3rd stage: Bermeo – Villanueva de Valdegovía

On April 4rd, 184,8 kilometers will be raced. This is the longest route of edition that will start in Bermeo’s Kaia Bidea at 12:35 and it will end in Valdegovía between 17:16 and 17:44. This stage has three mountain passes and two sprints:

-        Errigoiti of 3rd category at Km 19,1

-        Aretxabalgane of 3rd category at Km 34,7

-        La Barrerilla of 2nd category at Km 91,4

-        Sprint in Anuncita at Km 114,8

-        Sprint in Anuncita at Km 152,8.

 

4th stage: Lodosa – Lodosa

On April 5th, the Individual Time Trial will be raced, 19,4 kilometers long and with flat profile. The route will start in Lodosa and it will end in the same town. The approximate start of the first cyclist is scheduled at 14:10, while the last rider will be starting at 17:04 and will be arriving between 17:28 and 17:31.

 

5th stage: Vitoria – Eibar

On April 6th, 164,7 kilometers will be raced. The route will start in the Mendizabala Park of Vitoria at 13:00 and it will end in Eibar between 17:18 and 17:43. This stage has three mountain passes and two sprints:

-        Sprint in Bergara at Km 96,5

-        Elosua of 2nd category at Km 105

-        Sprint in Loiola at Km 118,2.

-        Endoia of 2nd category at Km 135,8

-        Azurki of 1s category at Km 144,6

 

6th stage:  Eibar – Arrate

On April 7th, 122,2 kilometers will be raced. The route will start in the Untzaga Square of Eibar at 14:11 and it will end at the top of Arrate between 17:21 y las 17:39. This stage has eight mountain passes and two sprints:

-        Trabakua of 3rd category at Km 8,2

-        Gontzagaraigana of 3rd category at Km 18,9

-        Bizkaiko Begiratokia of 3rd category at Km 25,9

-        Muniketa of 3rd category at Km 39,4

-        Elgeta of 2nd category at Km 63,4

-        Sprint in Eibar at Km 83,8

-        Izua of 1st category at Km 89,6

-        Sprint in Etxeberria at Km 98,4.

-        Urkaregi of 3rd category at Km 104,7

-        Usartza of 1st category at Km 119,9
