The traditional sports directors' meeting before the start of the Itzulia Basque Country 2018 has been held this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. in the Zarautz Council’s plenary room. The event has been attended by two manager from each of the 22 team and all the members of the international technical jury headed by its president Gianluca Crocetti.
There have been also the mayor of Zarautz, Xabier Txurruka; the president of Oceta, Julián Eraso; Javier Riaño, organization's manager; the international commissioners Miguel Aranzábal and Catherine Gastou; the anti-doping inspector, Jorge González; and Kiko García, in charge of the retransmission of Radio Itzulia.
In the meeting, the official cycliclist list has been completed and they have detailed different technical aspects of the competition. For example, the order that team cars will carry.
Xabier Txurruka has showed the "pride and honor" that supposes for Zarautz to host the start and finish of the 1st stage, as well as the start of the 2nd stage. "We hope that many people from the surrounding area will come, as it is a holiday and it seems that the weather will be nice," said the mayor of Zarautz.
Jorge González Peña, anti-doping inspector and in charge of anti-doping control, recalled that, as every year, the anti-doping control will be submitted to the winner of each stage and cyclists who will be designated by lottery.
In the meeting it has been wanted to influence the protection of the environment, warning the teams not to throw waste on the roads. For this reason, two Ecozones have been enabled in each stage: the first, after the feeding point and the second, approximately 20 kilometers from the finish line.
